Repetition is boring. The great performers repetitively practice and practice until change happens. Repetition is gradual, which makes change gradual. Rep by rep your body and mind change and the type of work you put out changes… Change is boring to watch and sometimes painful to experience but that is how change happens. Boring and painful. The…
On human work – “I love working. I think humans are made to be productive and work.” Perseverance and setbacks – “Every single thing in life is going to have obstacles. There are people who persevere through obstacles and there are people who let an obstacle defeat them. Successful people just don’t let an obstacle defeat them.”…
“Music is a language that most folks understand. It’s funny how music can bring us together all the time. Pandora is the embodiment of that.” – Marvin Stickel Marvin’s thoughts on Diversity & Inclusion – “If you are able to contribute and you don’t, that is a sin.” – Marvin Stickel Marvin Stickel, Director of Recruiting at…
“When you are doing what you are doing and doing it well, that is when the opportunities present themselves.” – Daniel Gogolin “I don’t want Joda Creative to be just a place where we create beautiful things but a place where we do the hard work behind the scenes to distribute the content.”- Daniel Gogolin Daniel Gogolin,…
A crap storm (using crap vs. shit – trying not to offend you with language) will last as long as you let it. Crap storms surprise you like a slow guy on the tennis court with bad form. You are supposed to win the tennis match easily, but now stuck in a tiring 3 hour match in the wind and sun.
Crap storms starts out small. Maybe it’s the tolerable employee who continues to do things that hurt your team/company, the deal that sounded easy but now you spend too much time/money on it or the company reorganizations that hurt innocent people and seem to last forever.
A crap storm makes us feel alone and afraid. Surviving alone and afraid feelings will build your muscles of turbulence. You have to learn how to be happy in a dark place. Bad bosses, good bosses, job changes (good or bad), fast growth, good/bad economy, illness, body changes, good/bad experiences – all impact our mind and feelings. Embrace the turbulence – build your muscles.
It is a matter of perspective. If you view bad situations like a crap storm, then know it will pass and you will be stronger when you survive it. Everyday people will want to give up, but do not be like an everyday person. Crap storms are temporary.
I want a candidate who has been through resilience and turbulence. The gal who has lived through tough times in business. They can handle crap storms. They do not have a rich daddy to bail them out. They rely on their own strength to get out of the crap storm.
More people want to work with a crap storm survivor because they are strong.
Our (@GabeVillamizar and @StephanieKrieg ) podcast – Secret Tech Sauce – has been through some crap storms. We haven’t released an episode in a few months because we went through a crap storm or two…
We are back and stronger than ever with many more episodes coming. Check our most recent episode (click through for email subscribers) HERE – Reflections, Riffs & Chats. We talk about doing what it takes to record and release 10 episodes with a sponsor. Something few have done.
PS – for non Apple product people go HERE to listen on Stitcher.
Marketers and everyday people – There are five basic human senses to pay attention to when marketing your product or service. Sight, hear, touch, taste and smell. Some scientists say they are more, but let’s keep it to five for now and here’s an audio sample from our “Secret Tech Sauce” podcast (email subscribers click through for link).
I hope it stimulate’s your hearing sense. This one is about the Sharing Economy with real stories of people who work in the Sharing Economy.
Find it useful? Give us a rating on Stitcher or iTunes. The clip above is from Stitcher. Stitcher has about 25,000 radio shows and podcasts. I know many of my HR Hound readers do not know Stitcher…
Audio is a wonderful way build brand awareness, describe your product or cause and entertain your audience. Many companies sponsor podcasts for lead generation and brand awareness. Many people listen to podcasts for entertainment or knowledge. Many of you are listening to us AND thank you.
Namaste, peace out.
After a few years, I have decided to launch a podcast, but this is a different kind of podcast. No scripts. No attachment to fame seeking fakers. This podcast is called “Secret Tech Sauce”. It’s on iTunes and soon to be on Stitcher, SoundCloud, Libsyn and more…
Secret Tech Sauce is about adding value to the large circles of content creators, sharers, engagers and watchers. One episode at a time, one person at a time. This podcast is authentic, real and un-filtered.
Secret Tech Sauce is a way for me to move beyond blog posts to further connect, cultivate and create a community of people that do things that work and not also not work. People who care about their work and people who work for a purpose, not for a status. My co-hosts are Gabe Villamizar and Stephanie Krieg.

If you own a digital device (i.e., TV, pc, iPad, iPhone, Droid, etc) you are aware the NBA Finals are going on and the San Antonio Spurs took a commanding 3-1 lead over the talented and younger Miami Heat. My first business trip with Pepsi Cola was in San Antonio back in the summer of 2000. Ahh, good times on the River Walk, but I digress. We will learn two lessons with this years #NBAFinals…
1- Lebron James will lead The Heat and the city of Miami to a 3 win comeback series victory. A comeback of this magnitude would put him in the neighborhood of Muhammad Ali in terms of an athlete who was labeled cocky. Just like Ali shouted out he would be champion of the world, Lebron shouted out he would win 7 NBA titles, which is more than Sir Jordan. A comeback in this series would give Lebron the confidence to win 7 or more NBA titles.
2- The Spurs win and Tim Duncan continues to be the silent warrior and leader that he is. The HR Hound will recommend Duncan considers retirement, but I doubt he will call for advice. He needs to pay for a divorce, so count on him playing more for the money. If he wins, he will have five NBA titles and still be a legend.
What does this teach us about talent? Teaches us that Michael Jordan was right (click HERE for his Hall of Fame speech). There is no “I” in team, but there is an “I” in win. Both Duncan and James have talent and they need their team to win the title, but it is there style, behaviors and actions that will lead them to win.
What else is going on with the HR Hound? Ben was on a well-respected HR Podcast earlier in the week, a la HR Happy Hour. It was an honor. CLICK HERE for the listen.
